CRAIGLUSCAR RESERVOIR - Location: OS 58/068904

Telephone: (+44)01383 732891

It is not often one comes across a man-made water which captures the imagination and pleases the eye as much as this one does. The fishery comprises two redundant water-supply reservoirs in some very scenic, wooded landscape, situated a couple of miles north of Dunfermline, just off the A823.

It is leased and run as a fishery by Dunfermline Artisans A.C. The fishery is run well, and the Artisans have regular stocking policy on the main reservoir, putting in rainbows on a weekly basis allowing for regular catches to be made. The smaller, more natural impoundment, is stocked predominantly with brown trout but there are some well-adjusted rainbows in there which have grown-on to become seriously impressive fish.

Don't be put off by the lack of boats - the fish tend to feed around the margins, and are consistently well within range of the bankside angler.

The locals tend to fish the down-wind banks, which may make for difficult casting but tends to improve the catch-returns. The North Bank (main reservoir) is particularly popular, and there is a bit of competition to see who can get to 'The Hole In The Wall' first - a reliable hot-spot. Craigluscar trout tend to be very surface active, and the locals tend to stick to floating or intermediate lines throughout the season.

The waters are stuffed with lots of natural feed, and the fish adjust very quickly. Impressive hatches of sedge and midge occur throughout the season, and green midge can be very important from time to time. The waters also contain large numbers of corixa, which should make a small Silver Invicta well worth a place on the cast in the summer months. Terrestrials are also important in the late summer months.
