This very natural looking and attractive reservoir is by no means big in size at 25 acres, but then size isn't everything. Running north east - south west, this fairly narrow water is well protected from the south west by high ground, with the worst of the weather funneling in from the west. However, it is generally speaking, a very sheltered water.

Bank and boat fishing are available at Clatto, and apart from a few minor problems with weed in the mid-summer months, and a ban on wading from the dam wall to the dyke on the North Shore (about 100 yards) it is a very free and easy environment for the angler to practice his arts.

The waters are full of insect life with chironimids, corixa, shrimp, caenis, ephemerids, and caddis species all being important at their allotted time. Terrestrial flies such as Daddy-Long-Legs and wind-borne beetles can make things lively for both fish and anglers, particularly in the late summer months. Water clarity is generally very good, with algae rarely, if ever, causing a problem.

The favoured areas by the club-members and locals are, at the beginning of the season, the west-end shallows; in the mid-summer months, almost everywhere, but definitely afloat during evening hatches; and at the back-end, the dam wall. Their preferred lines are Wet Cel 2 in the Spring and back-end, and floating and intermediate lines throughout the year.
